The sixth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly begins, focusing on key policy discussions, budget allocations, and legislative matters.

KOHIMA: The sixth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) commenced today with an address by Governor La Ganesan. The session, scheduled to continue till March 8, will focus on key policy discussions, budgetary allocations, and legislative matters.
The opening day proceedings began at 9:30 am with the Governor’s address, followed by obituary references. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, while Speaker Sharingain Longkumer honored five former members—TA Ngullie, K Zungkun, Bendangangshi Ao, Mhavil Khieya, and Kejong Chang. Advisor Imkong L Imchen moved a motion of thanks on the Governor’s address.
According to the schedule issued by the NLA Secretariat, discussions on the Governor’s address and tabling of various Annual Administrative and Assembly Committee Reports are lined up for March 4. The day will also witness the introduction of Government Bills, rules, and the presentation of the review of trends in receipts and expenditure along with the Supplementary Demand for Grants for 2024-2025.
A recess is scheduled for March 5, with the session resuming on March 6, when Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present the state budget for 2025-2026. Discussions on urgent public matters and government bills will follow.
March 7 will be dedicated to private members’ business and further deliberations on the state budget, while the final day, March 8, will see the tabling of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, voting on the Supplementary Demand for Grants, and the passage of the Nagaland Appropriation Bills.
The Speaker is also expected to announce the formation of Financial and Non-Financial Committees and the Panel of Chairpersons for 2025-2026 before adjourning the session.
